During this day and age where technology seems to dominate almost every part of our lives, we must ensure as educators to teach everyone, not just young people, how to navigate the intricacies of the internet. Yet, whether we are young or matured adults, danger lurks even more on the internet, specifically, when joining popular social networks. Moreover, we notice how people are not properly trained in regards to the etiquette of online social chatting that occurs in social media networks. Henceforth, most users are unaware of callous cowards who lurk about for innocent victims. Whereby this by far is a grave danger, another danger happens much more frequent: online bullying!
This happens on the part of students against other students, as well as, coworkers against other coworkers in the workforce. Very little is reported on the latter as it's very embarrassing to report and most vicious in its occurrence. Everyone must learn how to protect themselves from the viciousness on the part of others, however, those who seem to be the ones causing so much harm, must learn that their actions will be monitored and they will suffer severe consequences for having offended others, as well as, to have caused them emotional harm by having posted private messages, photos, or videos of their intimate lives. We cannot just sit quietly in front of our television sets while the latest news informs us of yet another suicide on the part of a young person who was tormented by cyber bullying and or was a victim of people who gained access to his or her private information. Subsequently, we must all try very hard not to fall prey of these rude individuals and remember that we are not what they portrait us to be. Our self confidence must be elevated during these times of perils and continuous attacks. Victory then will be achieved when we walk away from these situations without having been harmed spiritually. By doing this, cyber bullies will not have accomplished their ultimate goal and will feel defeated. Youngsters must contact an adult to alert them of this problem and those who are adults should contact an intimate friend or family member to deal with this situation, as well as, involve the police in this matter.
Victims should never confront these cowards for that will be just fueling more fire and attacks. If sensitive information in the form of photos and videos have been exposed, then accept the fact that it happened and issue a video recording stating your sentiments by possibly apologizing if others felt lied to by the contents of this information. Finally, remember that although it seems incredibly tragic, it will soon pass and people will forget sooner than soon it ever took place.
